The
Lagoon of Grado, an old-time enchanted landscape
With
more than 12 thousands hectars of extension, the
Lagoon of Grado is the most fascinating site of
the adriatic basin, with his front of litoraneous
cord, more than 25 kilometres, outlining an arch
between the Isonzo's outlet and the Anfora's Channel.
A
unique ecosystem with a fragile natural balance,
it'is the ideal habitat for dozen of water birds
which here build their nest.
You can observe herring gulls and common seagulls,
ducks and herons. An outstanding presence of this
area is the "Cavaliere d'Italia", a
long legs and thin beck bird that represents a
precious event for every fan of birdwatching.
The
reserve of the Isonzo's outlet allows observing
a wide range of animal species, more than 300
birds species; a lot of ducks and gooses, coots,
curlew sandpipers, and many predatories too.
Among
mammals, you can find roes, foxes, badgers, wild
boars, and hares other than many rodent, worm
eating and bats species and pied butterflies.
Moreover,
some Camargue horses were put into the reserve:
it's a kind of race that is particularly fit to
live in the humid places thanks to its physical
features (little dimensions and large hoof).
Some horses are trained and used both for guided
tours and by the reserve staff, otherwise other
horses are free in the reserve and they are useful
to control the vegetation in several areas of
it.
