Because beauty is also responsibility.
“More than 4 billion people out of 8 live in urban areas. The challenge will be to integrate and expand green spaces within those areas.”
— World Bank, 2020
When you think of a seaside hotel, you imagine peace, elegance, and light. But what you don't immediately perceive—and what truly makes the difference—is how these
elements intertwine with a broader vision: a new way of living space and nature.
This awareness is the foundation of the new project for Hotel Savoy in Grado. An architectural and landscape restyling that goes beyond aesthetic transformation, embracing a philosophy of contemporary and sustainable
hospitality.
Vertical greenery, history and future
The north and west façades of the building have been redesigned to host 33 rooms with private balconies, fitted with high-performance acoustic and thermal windows. But nature is the true star here, now climbing the hotel’s walls
thanks to a greening intervention designed with local plants—alternating evergreens and deciduous species, herbaceous and climbing varieties—creating a living landscape that changes with the seasons and welcomes guests visually from the moment they arrive.
The project was designed by the international studio Plasma Studio, with landscape contribution from Giacomo Guzzon (Gillespies, London). The inspiration comes from the deep identity of the Savoy, blending Venetian baroque influences with postmodern lines, to create a bridge between history and innovation. The result? A coherent architectural language that unites the hotel’s different souls into a single aesthetic narrative.
Green architecture: a new urban grammar
The theme of greenery integrated into living spaces is now at the heart of international debate. Projects like Stefano Boeri’s Vertical Forest in Milan, the gardens designed by Gilles Clément, or the emotional landscaping of Piet
Oudolf, have shown how architecture can engage in dialogue with nature to generate well-being, sustainability, and beauty.
In a global context marked by climate change and increasing urbanization, these choices become essential. Greenery, beyond cooling and purifying, creates spaces capable of inspiring emotion, slowing us down, and reconnecting us
