It sounds like magic, but how does it really work?
Being able to enjoy the benefits of seawater from spring to autumn, regardless of the season or the wind, was the forward-thinking idea of Richard Soyer and Mara Rossiello.
So, in 1977, with the help of the Municipality of Grado and the Tourist Board, they built a direct connection to the sea, which literally took the water from the beach in front of the hotel and brought it into the pool.
The intake mouth, located 100 meters from the beach - now 400 due to low tide - is protected by a filter against foreign bodies. You won't find algae or fish in the pool! The pipeline transports the water by gravity to the coast, where - in settling tanks - the sand is allowed to settle.
From there, it is pumped to the hotel, where there is a second phase of settling, sanitization, and then heating (today through solar panels).
Every night, for about an hour, new water is pumped in to fill the pool.
In this way, our guests can always enjoy the benefits of the sea and thalassotherapy, which has been proven to be an effective aid in treating respiratory diseases, arthritis, and dermatitis.
In addition, it is a sustainable solution that allows you to enjoy an afternoon in the pool even during times of drought like these.
